Marr Rugby preview (14.12.2024): Aim to return to winning ways and bring some pre Christmas cheer

Marr Rugby fixtures (14.12.2024)

1s - AWAY v Glasgow Hawks (2pm at Balgray)
2s - HOME v Biggar (2pm at Fullarton)

Marr Rugby's three Men's XVs were due to be in action on 14.12.2024 but earlier on Friday the 3s match was cancelled after Lenzie 2s conceded the fixture (no team). The award of a bonus point win saw the 3s leapfrog over Ayr into second place in the league. Ayr though have two games in hand.

The 2nd XV take centre stage at Fullarton and withteh 3s match cancelled have the opportunity to call up some players as well as benefiting from the availability a couple of several the 1s to strengthen the squad.

Ben Blair steps up to start as hooker and joins a strong looking group of forwards that includes Liam Morrison the ever improving Adam Gallacher, Jamie Braddock and returning after injury Andrew Acton is on the bench. Marr should enjoy a solid platform from which they can launch attacks from what must be the strongest back line they have fielded this season. The halfback pairing of Alex McCormack and Gregor Beckwith will be able to unleash the power and pace of an electric back three starting with Ross Booth, Jake Jacobson and Ross Maiden. The bench includes more power and pace, including Evan Light and Ruari Anderson.

The 1s are on the road to play Glasgow Hawks who lie in 6th spot in the league. After the frustration of the match v Hawick being called off the players are keen to get back to winning ways. The Offside Line's preview has the match listed as a Home win so it's up to our squad to upset this prediction.

In preparing for the match there was fierce competition, especially amongst the Backs, to get a place in the matchday squad, with several players narrowly missing out. Marr's squad sees several positional changes with Blair Jardine starting at hooker and Logan Jarvie at centre. Scott Bickerstaff makes a return from a lengthy injury layoff. Marr benefit from the release of Logan Trotter who will cover fullback. It will be Fraser Grant's final appearance of season as early in the new year he is heading off to Australia for a couple of years and will be nice to get a result so send him off with even happier memories.
