Marr Rugby: Senior squad selections for 31 March 2018

BT National Reserve League 2: Marr Rugby v Dundee Titans
BT West Reserve League 2: Marr Rugby v Cummnock RFC 2s

Kick-offs 3pm

As the season draws to a close rugby action continues at Fullarton.

On this holiday weekend Marr Rugby supporters need to be out in good numbers to see our emerging talent blending with experience in the 2s and the 3s.

Marr Rugby 2nd XV preview: The 2nd XV is presented with a golden opportunity to secure promotion in the final match of their season. They can achieve this by their own hand by taking at least a point away from the match. However we know that for coaches Keith Dunsmuir and Stephen Galloway this will not be enough as they drive their troops forward urging them to end the season on a high. They face an awkward match.

We well know that Dundee High School Rugby XV’s always rise to the challenge against Marr Rugby sides and our teams have often come away second best. In recent years though this tide has started to turn and Marr have the chance to do the double, having beaten the Titans 12-43 earlier in the season. Dundee started the season well but in recent matches gone off the pace. We know that, in this their final match of the season, they will want to show what might have been and put Marr through the wringer.

Marr’s players need to make sure they approach this match in the same professional manner that has given some impressive performances and results. This season, having being promoted into NL2 the players have shown they can compete at this stage and are ready to kick on and in keeping with the club’s vision step up to allow players to experience and enjoy playing rugby at the highest possible level.

Captain Josh Evans will be leading the way by example, intent on making sure his team add another chapter to Marr Rugby club history.

Marr Rugby 3rd XV preview: It is derby time again as Cummnock RFC’s 2s arrive at Fullarton. The visitors come off the back of an impressive win so will be in buoyant form and ager to get payback for the reverse fixture that saw Marr win 22-24 after Thomas Watkins converted a final play plenty kick.

Marr’s squad is still to be finalised with availability being impacted by the Bank Holiday weekend. Iron Man Don Morrison steps up to act as captain. This season he’s switched from the pack to play at centre but for this important match he returns to his back row berth where he completes an impressive and explosive pack.

Half backs Martin McMillan and John Ferrans will play key roles in managing the game. If the forwards can provide a stable platform they will have great opportunities to mix attacking options including youthful back line that has pace aplenty.
