U14 Girls Update

Colin Sturgeon10 Sep 2024 - 12:34

Busy start to the Season for Purple & Gold squads!

Marr Rugby Girls U14 purple team headed down to Dumfries this weekend to play a round robin against the hosts and Wigtonshire. Having had a successful visit to Wigtownshire the previous weekend, Marr knew that the opposition would come back stronger and more prepared and they didn't disappoint.

First up was Wigtownshire. Marr started well playing aggressively in defense, turning over the ball in rucks and scoring a flurry of early tries. In the second half Wigtownshire regrouped and countered with a couple of well executed attacks down the wing leaving the final score at 10 v 5 in Marr's favour.

Next up were Dumfries who were out in force with 16 players. Dumfries came out fired up with a rapid pressure defense, aggressive gang tackling and strong ruck defense that forced a couple of early errors from Marr and rewarded the hosts with the first two tries of the game. Marr stayed calm and composed upping their tempo in defense and trying a few new creative tricks in attack to break the opposition down. The game was a real physical battle with the final score (Dumfries 4 v 9 Marr) not really reflecting the close contest. A great morning of competitive rugby and we're looking forward to hosting Dumfries and Wigtownshire at home this coming weekend.

Marr Rugby U14 gold team hosted both Annan and Ayr at Fullarton on Sunday. The 3 way competition was a great showcase for girls rugby with an excellent standard achieved by all 3 teams.

The Marr team attacked well and developed good pace on the ball, handling was sharp and offloads very very effective, resulting in some really creative plays and well worked tries. With the reduced numbers the girls made use of the extra space and did really well moving the ball well into the wider channels. It was a physical battle up front, but all the team protected the ball well at the ruck and made their tackle’s count against strong Annan and Ayr runners. The Marr girls can be very proud of their performance, again progress in the right direction!

Each team played 2 rounds of 2 x 8min games and finished with the following results:

Ayr won 3 Lost 1 (18 tries)
Marr won 3 Lost 1 (16 tries)
Annan won 0 Lost 4 (8 tries)
